Israel's Nazi Gulag Colonisation Policies - Remember Palestine

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed a new committee, made up of four ministers, to look into outposts at Bruchin and Rechelim, in the north, and Sansana, near Hebron in the south. The prime minister's office announced two days later that the committee had decided to "formalize the status" of the outposts

The Banks' Nightmare Is Coming True: Greek Left Calls For Anti-Bailout Coalition + First Official Greek Exit Polls: Pro-Bailout Parties Plunge; Anti-Bailout Radical Left, Neo-Nazis Soar

Tyler Durden's picture
The only saving grace of the earlier horrendous Greek parliamentary vote was that, based on very preliminary results New Democracy and Pasok would be able to form a coalition government with precisely 151 seats needed in parliament to give them status quo powers. However, according to a more recent re-rack of the votes (New Democracy 18.9%, 108 seats, Pasok 13.4%,41 seats, Syrizia: 16.6%, 51 seats, and all others), this assumption is now in jeopardy as the two pro-bailout parties will have just 149 seats in the new parliament, or not even a full majority. Why is this problematic? Because virtually every other party in the new parliament, and there may be up to 10 there including the New Dawn, have voiced their opposition to the bailout of Greece, which as everyone knows is merely a bailout of Europe's insolvent banks using Greek taxpayer funds as a conduit. And, adding insult to injury, Reuters now reports that "Greek leftist leader calls for anti-bailout coalition." It appears that finally, after many years of delays, the anti "bailout" genie is finally out of bottle...

Hollande wins French presidential election with 51.9 % of votes

First official results show Socialist Party candidate Francois Hollande has defeated incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy, who managed to secure only 48.1 per cent of the votes. Sarkozy has conceded defeat, asking that Hollande's victory be respected.

The estimates were carried by French media after all polling stations closed at 20:00 (18:00 GMT).
Hollande will be the first French socialist president of France since 1995.
He capitalized on France's economic woes and President Sarkozy's unpopularity. He has also promised to raise taxes on big corporations and people earning more than €1million a year, and lower the retirement age to 60.

It was British banks, not British borrowers, that crashed our economy

    Ben Chu
  • by Ben Chu:
  • The Defence Secretary Philip Hammond says that ordinary people are blaming the banks for Britain’s economic bust when they should be blaming themselves.

“People say to me, ‘it was the banks’. I say, ‘hang on, the banks had to lend to someone’. People feel in a sense that someone else is responsible for the decisions they made. Of course, if banks don’t offer credit, people can’t take it. [But] there were two consenting adults in all these transactions, a borrower and a lender, and they may both have made wrong calls. Some people are unwilling to accept responsibility for the consequences of their own choices.”

Mr Hammond, who was part of David Cameron’s economic team in opposition, also suggested that it is the public’s desire to pay down huge debt levels now that is holding back the economy.

I’m skeptical about this for two reasons. First, and most important, the UK’s banking crisis was not a consequence of bad loans made to British households or companies. Second, it is far from clear that UK households were disastrously overly indebted in the years preceding the crisis.

Let’s deal with the banks first. Ben Broadbent, the former Goldman Sachs economist who now sits as an external member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, last month gave a speech in which he showed our largest banks got into trouble in 2008 because of their bad loans made to the rest of the world, not their UK lending.

Direct Democracy, 2.0

By :
I FIRST took real notice of the Pirates last summer during the campaign for city elections in Berlin. German electioneering is quaint, even faintly musty by American standards. Political advertising mostly takes the form of full-color head shots of the candidates hung on light posts and telephone poles with interchangeable slogans about working for a brighter future.
“Why am I hanging here anyway?” a Pirate Party poster brazenly asked, the unshaven face in black and white, belonging to the candidate Christopher Lauer, neither smiling nor making the requisite eye contact. “You’re not going to vote anyway.”
When the Pirates captured a surprising 9 percent of the vote, I ventured out to their election-night party at a scruffy club in the traditional counterculture neighborhood of Kreuzberg. “We’re a chaotic band of cyber-hippies,” said Oliver Höfinghoff, an army veteran who had served two tours in Kosovo and was about to start his first in the city legislature. “And we should stay that way.”
Though the Pirates are mostly known as a one-issue party advocating Internet freedom, Mr. Höfinghoff explained their online decision-making system, Liquid Feedback. Every subject could be debated, drafted, amended and voted on by members over the Internet. The process was the platform.

Greeks speak out ahead of critical elections "I expect social unrest" "The Pirate party, why not!" (Audio)

Voters angry over austerity plans and a struggling economy are expected to deliver a blow to Greece’s two main parties in Sunday’s elections. FRANCE 24 spoke to people in Athens ahead of the vote.
For the first time since the beginning of the financial crisis, Greeks have been given the opportunity to channel their anger and frustration through the most democratic process of all -- parliamentary elections.
On Sunday, millions of Greek voters will cast their ballot for the government they believe best holds the solution to their economic woes. Disillusionment among Greeks runs high and many voters are expected to punish the traditional conservative New Democracy and socialist PASOK that have alternated the country's leadership for the past decades, as austerity measures continue to bite.  Polls suggest that up to ten smaller parties -- ranging from the new left-leaning Democratic Left, to the extreme-right Golden Dawn -- could enter Parliament, benefiting from public anger.
France24 compiled the portraits of five Greek voters. Listen to what each had to say, including the view of political analyst on the elections' historic significance, as Greece goes to ballot again. "I expect social unrest"
says George Tzogopoulos, political analyst. "The Pirate party, why not!" says Pelagia Kontzoglou, cafe owner. Read more for audio interviews.

One Simple Rule To Stop Unnecessary Wars

I’m sick of war.

by azizonomics: Officially the cost of the war on terror has been $1.3 trillion. And military spending — especially the interest on debt to pay for past wars — keeps growing year on year:

As General Eisenhower noted:
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its labourers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.
The cost in life has been ever steeper; over a million Iraqis died.

US Hospitals Begin Planting Debt Collectors In Emergency Rooms "Now common at hospitals across the country"

The New York Times reports on a new model of emergency care—debt collectors posing as medical staff:
Hospital patients waiting in an emergency room or convalescing after surgery are being confronted by an unexpected visitor: a debt collector at bedside.
This and other aggressive tactics by one of the nation’s largest collectors of medical debts, Accretive Health, were revealed on Tuesday by the Minnesota attorney general, raising concerns that such practices have become common at hospitals across the country.
To patients, the debt collectors may look indistinguishable from hospital employees, may demand they pay outstanding bills and may discourage them from seeking emergency care at all. The attorney general, Lori Swanson, also said that Accretive employees may have broken the law by not clearly identifying themselves as debt collectors…

Open Source State

“There will never be a really free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly.” – Henry David Thoreau Civil Disobedience
It’s time to create an Open Source State.
To do this you need a lot of people, educated people, to move into a state and filibusterer legislation.
What untapped demographic in the U.S. could provide such a large number of creative and well educated people?
Those with outstanding student loans of course.
What better resource full of diverse, talented and dedicated people are there in the U.S., but a whole lot of educated folks  in endless education debt.
Offer them sanctuary. If need be give them refugee status. Use their talents to develop a more just and fair society. We have all the models, it’s only a matter of using these models for the benefit of people, rather than corporations.

Fascist FBI Technocracy: We need wiretap-ready Web sites - NOW!

The FBI is quietly pushing its plan to force surveillance backdoors on social networks, VoIP, and Web e-mail providers, and that the bureau is asking Internet companies not to oppose a law making those backdoors mandatory
:The FBI is asking Internet companies not to oppose a controversial proposal that would require firms, including Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo, and Google, to build in backdoors for government surveillance.
In meetings with industry representatives, the White House, and U.S. senators, senior FBI officials argue the dramatic shift in communication from the telephone system to the Internet has made it far more difficult for agents to wiretap Americans suspected of illegal activities, CNET has learned.
The FBI general counsel's office has drafted a proposed law that the bureau claims is the best solution: requiring that social-networking Web sites and providers of VoIP, instant messaging, and Web e-mail alter their code to ensure their products are wiretap-friendly.
