The NWO: Waterboarding Is A Big Joke At Cheney Roast

By Dick Cheney is ready to laugh about waterboarding.
Conservatives gathered at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan Monday night to roast the former vice president at an event where many of the biggest laugh lines touched on the most controversial policies of a key architect of his administration’s war on of terror. At the gathering, hosted by Commentary, figures including former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and former Attorney General Michael Mukasey drew a mix of chuckles and winces with jokes that left few lines uncrossed, according to three guests.
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman “said something to the effect that it’s nice that we’re all here at the Plaza instead of in cages after some war crimes trial,” recalled one person who was there.

On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs

Strike: Ever had the feeling that your job might be made up? That the world would keep on turning if you weren’t doing that thing you do 9-5? David Graeber explored the phenomenon of bullshit jobs for our recent summer issue – everyone who’s employed should read carefully…

On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs
By David Graeber: In the year 1930, John Maynard Keynes predicted that, by century’s end, technology would have advanced sufficiently that countries like Great Britain or the United States would have achieved a 15-hour work week. There’s every reason to believe he was right. In technological terms, we are quite capable of this. And yet it didn’t happen. Instead, technology has been marshaled, if anything, to figure out ways to make us all work more. In order to achieve this, jobs have had to be created that are, effectively, pointless. Huge swathes of people, in Europe and North America in particular, spend their entire working lives performing tasks they secretly believe do not really need to be performed. The moral and spiritual damage that comes from this situation is profound. It is a scar across our collective soul. Yet virtually no one talks about it.

Dodging a bullet - Domestic Violence Awareness Month

dodging the bullet
By It’s day 9 of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Shrink4Men, AVoiceforMen and the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women (DAHMW) believe that male victims of domestic violence, the invisible victims, are just as needing and deserving of our care, help and attention as female victims of domestic abuse.
Today’s In His Own Words is different from the accounts we have shared thus far. “Jason” saw the red flags, but he did not ignore them or his better judgment. He ended the relationship and got out before his abuser could make hostages (i.e., children) or extract The Precious™ (i.e., the wedding ring that signifies you are no longer a couple, but a menage à trois — a husband, a wife and the State).
Jason’s story is also proof positive that educating boys and men about female aggression and abuse does make a difference and can save lives.

Dodging a Bullet
I am newcomer to AVFM. Through that wonderful community, I have discovered the equally excellent website, Shrink4Men. Your numerous red flags articles have helped me to dodge a bullet, and for this I am extremely grateful.

US adults are dumber than the average human

By Associated Press: WASHINGTON — It’s long been known that America’s school kids haven’t measured well compared with international peers. Now, there’s a new twist: Adults don’t either.
In math, reading and problem-solving using technology – all skills considered critical for global competitiveness and economic strength – American adults scored below the international average on a global test, according to results released Tuesday.
Adults in Japan, Canada, Australia, Finland and multiple other countries scored significantly higher than the United States in all three areas on the test. Beyond basic reading and math, respondents were tested on activities such as calculating mileage reimbursement due to a salesman, sorting email and comparing food expiration dates on grocery store tags.
Not only did Americans score poorly compared to many international competitors, the findings reinforced just how large the gap is between the nation’s high- and low-skilled workers and how hard it is to move ahead when your parents haven’t.
In both reading and math, for example, those with college-educated parents did better than those whose parents did not complete high school.
The study, called the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, found that it was easier on average to overcome this and other barriers to literacy overseas than in the United States.
