Orwellian UK BANNED Press TV: At least 15 people have been arrested after clashes broke out between riot police and demonstrators who were rallying in support of a jailed anarchist student in Greece.
10,000 people marched through central Athens on Tuesday in a show of support for the young imprisoned protester, Nikos Romanos, who has been on a hunger strike over the right to be able to attend university.Media reports showed protesters smashing cars, setting fire to bins and cars and barricading streets.
Meanwhile, security forces fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the demonstrators.
Police arrested at least 15 people in the Exarchia neighborhood in downtown Athens.
On November 10, Nikos Romanos started a hunger strike. He is now hospitalized.
The jailed student demanded to make use of the right to educational furloughs after being accepted into a university.
However, prison authorities denied his request.
Debt-laden Greece hopes to exit a six-year recession this year. The country nearly went bankrupt in 2010, only to survive on international rescue packages.
However, Greece had to accept tough austerity measures and economic reforms in return for the bailouts.
Greeks have lost about a third of their disposable income since the debt crisis erupted in 2009, and unemployment has soared, leaving more than one in four without a job.

Nikos Romanos is demanding to be able to make use of educational leaves to attend university classes, while by studying in prison he has succeeded in the admission exams. Any other prison inmate is entitled to university prison leaves that Romanos is denied, because of his anarchist political beliefs. The greek State also punishes him because of his defiant stance in denying to attend an award ceremony where the greek Minister of Justice handed awards to prison inmates that succeeded in the university ebtrance exams.
Nikos is currently in Athens general hospital Gennimatas, under a strong custody of the police. Physician Pantelia (Lina) Vergopoulou, who visited him on 28/11, reports that the comrade remains in a critical condition with life-threatening complications.
Anarchist prisoner Yannis Michailidis is also on hunger strike since November 17, 2014, as a form of solidarity with the struggle of Nikos Romanos. Few days ago, Yannis Michailidis also needed to be hospitalized, after he was diagnosed with bradycardia. Yannis is currently in Piraeus general hospital Tzaneio, under a strong custody of the police.
Politis and Mpourzoukos are also on hunger strike since December 1.
